The Dean provides strategic and operational leadership to a College that holds prestigious international accreditations for its programs (WASC, ACCSB, and EQUIS) and enjoys an excellent reputation for its teaching, research, industry engagement and employability. With students at the heart of what we do, you will strive constantly to enhance student success in education and employment and provide opportunities for them to excel in curricular and extra-curricular activities. The key role will be to develop further the quality of education, student experience and graduate employment; ensure that the College builds further on its strong industry links to support curriculum development and delivery, research and knowledge exchange, student internships, graduate employment and corporate partnerships in education and knowledge exchange; hire, lead and develop outstanding faculty members and other staff; ensure recruitment of ambitious students at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels, including through corporate partnerships; achieve highest standards in quality assurance, academic integrity and national and international accreditations; and manage financial and staff resources creatively and diligently, in line with the University s strategic goals. The Dean is a senior leader in the University and a key member of the Provost s leadership team.
Job Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management
• Works as a key member of the Provost s leadership team, playing a central role in delivering the University s Strategic Plan, meeting performance indicators and leading endeavors that will enhance the reputation of the University.
• Leads the development, growth and sustainability of attractive and financially viable teaching programs at undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and corporate levels that prepare graduates for productive careers.
• Leads the college in developing corporate partnerships in education and knowledge transfer.
• Establishes and strengthen links with external agencies, government and business to ensure that our taught programs and research are industry relevant and support the needs of business and the public sector.
• Develops and implement best practice in pedagogy, assessment and quality enhancement and ensure compliance with ADU policies and accreditation requirements at the national and international levels.
• Continuously improves student success (as measured by retention, completions, GPA, employability) at College level and to contribute to such efforts across the University.
• Ensures that the College engages in research that addresses regional challenges, business needs and contributes to teaching and pedagogic developments.
• Leads in the recruitment and selection of highly qualified faculty and staff, ensure the effective leadership and development of faculty and staff, and manage faculty and staff workloads, performance evaluations and promotions.
• Ensures that relations with accrediting bodies (CAA, ADEC, AACSB, WASC, and EQUIS) are maintained and enhanced, that requirements for accreditations are met, and that new accreditations are secured where these would enhance the University s reputation and improve student employability.
• Ensures that leadership and governance at College level is of the highest quality. Participate in and lead in University level governance arrangements.
Marketing & Enrolment Management
• Develops, implements and evaluates College Plans to increase number of students and, in conjunction with marketing and admissions, recruit ambitious students to the College.
• Plans and implements strategies to enhance student retention.
• Ensures that our marketing efforts are well targeted at potential markets, including engagement with schools and local communities, open days and information sessions and international markets.
• Strengthens links with College alumni to support their development needs and use as resource for student recruitment and business links.
Financial and Strategic Planning
• Participates actively in delivering the University s Strategic Plan at the College and University levels.
• Ensures financial feasibility of the College and its constituent programs.
• Develops College action plans, implementation strategies and continuous improvement feedback mechanisms.
• Manages the budget for the College.
Reporting and Accreditation
• Ensures quality and standards, including course approvals and reviews, applications for accreditation
• Ensures that reporting requirements are met fully and on time.
• Maintains strong links with accrediting and review bodies.
Required Qualifications:
• Research Doctorate from an internationally accredited HE institution in a business related discipline
• 4 years of experience as Department Chair (or higher) or an Associate Dean in an internationally accredited school of business. Have achievements that would command the respect of peers and external stakeholders, including accrediting bodies and businesses. The appointee will normally be a senior academic with credentials to be appointed as a Professor.
• Fluent in English, Arabic is an added advantage .
• People skills; leadership skills; ability to enthuse, motivate and persuade; experience of change management; excellent verbal and written communication; organizational and strategic planning.
