The Associate will provide leadership on projects within the Design Planning and Economics (DP+E) group and have proven skills and experience in the field of urban planning and development. The role will require the Associate to deliver a range of strategic planning and master planning projects by contributing to the conception of creative, contextually responsive and economically viable urban planning strategies and solutions. You will be required to manage and lead strategic planning and master planning projects. This role will require you to provide input into the review of projects, philosophy and approach, while considering client requirements and expectations and provide financial management and the coordination of both internal and external project resources.
The Associate will work with colleagues within DP+E including planners, urban designers, architects, economists, environmental planners, landscape architects, graphic designers and other disciplines, as well as colleagues across the Building and Places group and all of AECOM, to deliver integrated services on a range of projects. The Associate will apply their knowledge and skills to deliver clear, cogent and robust project outcomes. This role requires flexibility to be able to project manage and provide technical leadership on a range of projects (type and scale).
The Associate will be required to manage projects and people in consideration of AECOM systems and structures. This role will require client liaison (internal and external) and the need to maintain relationships (internal and external) and continue delivery of high quality and efficient services. In this role you will represent the company and be required to identify and pursue opportunities for business development.
The Associate will have strong technical skills in a range of areas of urban planning and be able to lead strategic planning, master planning, and regulatory planning projects. This role requires strong technical skills and the ability to manage projects effectively and to work collaboratively across disciplines. Further, the Associate will be able to manage and prepare bids across a range of proposals. This role requires excellent business and technical writing skills. The Associate will be capable of managing bids and the bidding process in conformity with AECOM s practices and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Liaise and coordinate projects and bids with the broader DP+E team and including Project Managers, Senior Associates, the Urban Planning and Economics Principal and the DP+E Principal Director .
• Provide specific technical expertise in strategic and master planning work within a team of planners, urban designers, landscape architects and engineers to complete land development, master planning, and strategic planning projects.
• Lead projects and delivery with technical input and skills in design, spatial planning, statutory planning, stakeholder liaison, preparation of reports and presentations.
• Manage technical projects and multi-disciplinary teams to successful conclusions/outcomes on a project-by-project basis. Manage the budget, programme and general performance associated with such projects.
• Implement scope and approach to projects and bids to best suit client needs, context, budgets and to deliver a high quality and innovative solution for projects.
• Prepare and deliver presentations to clients, government (approving agencies) and other interests to advance projects and bids.
• Liaise with government agencies and other authorities regarding development objectives, policies and procedures as well as securing approvals, permits and consents.
• Ensure compliance with the company s Quality Assurance policies and procedures.
• Assist senior colleagues in identification and pursuit of business development opportunities, and growth of the business through new and repeat clients
• Prepare proposals and qualification documents in the interest of obtaining new assignments. This would include the preparation and delivery of supporting presentations.
• Provide such further assistance to senior colleagues as may be required from time to time.
• Prepare and present submissions/reports to support projects and ensure quality deliverables.
• Provide effective representation for the organisation, developing and managing relationships with the client, local authorities and other interests.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum 10 years of urban planning experience required of which 2-4 years should be in the Middle East region or context.
Experience working in government, consultancy and client-side is preferred.
Specific Skills Required:
Experience managing and delivering a range of urban planning and development projects.
Experience on relevant planning, development, master planning and design projects at different scales.
Ability to manage multi-disciplinary projects to successful delivery of outcomes within budget and programme.
Experience working within government or on behalf of government on strategic planning, statutory planning and/ or master planning projects.
Understanding of governance, development and implementation.
Proven ability to deliver high-quality, multi-disciplinary plans including, concepts, strategies, development and design controls and guidelines.
Strong analytical skills and ability to develop practical options and solutions.
Strong ability to write, refine and deliver final reports with regard to planning, urban design and development projects.
Ability to structure, lead and participate in planning, urban design and development workshops.
Ability in seeking, securing, maintaining and managing positive and successful liaison with clients.
Ability to work either in a team, or alone with proven positive results from either scenario.
Strong oral, graphic and written communication skills. Communicates effectively with a varied population. Key point of contact for clients, other business lines, subconsultants and government agencies.
Skills in indesign, cad, illustrator and other packages will be advantageous.
Record of identifying trends, issues/ opportunities and solutions across products, processes and methodology.
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor s degree in urban planning, geography and/or a related discipline is essential.

Master s level degree in urban planning, urban design or a related discipline is preferred.
